Camilla's daring choice of hat, as reported on this website recently, has created embarrassing headlines for her husband in the French press after a basic translation error.
Unfortunately, during the state visit a source close to Camilla was asked by a French reporter what she was wearing in her hat. The reply was a beaver, a word which the reporter did not immediately recognise. Whilst writing up the story a couple of hours later the French reporter asked an American colleague what a beaver was. Given the ribald nature of journalistic badinage, the yank obviously thought the frog was referring to a lady's private area and gave a fairly explicit response.
Hence the next morning the french press were leading with "Camilla attends State visit of President Sarkozy with an old c**t". Prince Charles took immediate offence.
He cheered himself up with an ice cream.
