Ken Livingstone, prior to today the Mayor of London, has taken the dramatic step of declaring himself king of London and calling off the upcoming mayoral elections.
In a statement from his palace (previously City Hall), King Ken the first said: "Look, basically the mayor has so many powers I might as well be king. These elections were just a waste of public money - and that's my job."
There is apparently nothing that can be done to reverse the decision. Experts looked at the legislation and were perplexed to find that King Ken is perfectly within his rights. Lawyers for Boris Johnson said that they had scoured the law, but as it all says is: "The mayor can do what the hell he likes ha ha ha" there isn't much room for legal manoeuvre.
King Ken has yet to indicate what he intends to do with his new royal powers, but as he was capable of developing a foreign policy with Venezuala as mayor then God only knows.
