Leicestershire - (Ass Mess): The beleagured parents of little Maddie McCann have chosen General Augusto Pinochet's former defence attorney Michael Caplan QC to act for them amid reports that UK police and social workers 'are on their case'.
The bizarre move has puzzled their many British supporters after being told that Caplan acted for the former Chilean dictator when Spanish prosecutors attempted to extradite him from the UK in 1999 to face genocide and torture charges.
"Whoever has advised the couple to pick Pinochet's brief must be stark, raving bonkers," a top legal source in London said today.
"At least it isn't Cherie Booth QC!" a Law Lord at the Court of Appeal sighed today after learning the news.
