Former Col. Patty Mercer, the Black Patty of the Sherwood Foresters, has been forced to resign from Parliament for his attribution of race as an explanation of laziness among soldiers of color.
The colonel dressed in his white plantation finery tried to explain: "I'se aways luved my darkies. . . show as shootin they's as slothful as possums in an Alabama summa but they's good, god-fearin folk and as long as you know how to moe-tivatem well you can getem to pick cotton like they's no tommara!"
Black soldier, retired Corporal Unca Tom testified on Mercer's behalf: "Da Colonel was right good to us darkies. . . My, my Everybody knowd the blacks is a lazy lot and da colonel he'd lay inta usen but righteous! But he's alwayz brung us some salve fo ouren wounds and say: 'Who loves you black bastards? '. And we would say shinin our white smilin teeth in the night, 'you does acourse, colonel you does'.
The Sheriff of Nottingham and Sherwood Forest said the colonel was: "The best bro in the hood!"
