A man who returned a library book after its 'return by' date is in trouble with the authorities in Hull.
Moys Kenwood from the city, borrowed 'Favorite Dishes Of Iran' from Hull Central Library in October 2013, knowing full well that it had to be returned to the library by the end of that month.
When this time limit passed, he should, reasonably, have expected a small fine, but he wasn't expecting a bill of £43,200, which is what he was asked to pay when he eventually returned the book in August. He said:
"It seems a trifle high. And it wasn't much of a read, either."
A spokesman for Hull City Council said:
"He'd have been better off ringing up and saying he'd lost it - in 2013, the mug!"
