Rail passengers were delayed this morning when the train driver abandoned his cab and walked off.
The 7.05 London train from Hull Paragon station departed 30 mins late after GNER located a replacement driver.
British Transport police were called in when driver George Binns (42) began walking along the line after leaving his cab. Colleagues said that Mr Binns had arrived at the station earlier in a very distraught state.
"The trouble is," said Mr Binns,"there's often a lot of leaves on this branch line. And nobody seems to clear them off. Everybody leaves it to the driver."
Senior GNER inspectors have found more trains on the lines in East Yorkshire where there have been gale-force winds.
Train driver Mr Binns is reported to be at home on another of his sick leaves.
