Sources close to Blackpool playmaker and Liverpool transfer target, Charlie Adam, are indicating that the Scot will reject overtures from Anfield, and move to Wigan instead.
It is thought that Wigan is closer to Adam's home and therefore a more logical destination than Anfield.
But some insiders are hinting that there may be more to it than that. In certain circles, Adam has been revealed to harbour a secret desire to one day play for Manchester United, and that he sees a move to the Kop as a possible obstacle to his professional ambitions.
The intense rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool has resulted in virtually zero transfer activities between the two clubs in recent years, which goes some way towards explaining Adam's reluctance to relocate to Merseyside.
"Charlie doesn't want to go to Liverpool. He says they're crap, and not even in Europe. Simple as that," said a Wigan insider. "Frankly, he doesn't fancy it. To be honest, I don't think he's all that bothered about coming to Wigan either, but at least it's closer to Old Trafford than Anfield."
Wigan boss, Roberto Martinez declined to comment on the Adam situation as he was rushing to collect a portion of calamares from a Wigan tapas bar.
More as we get it.
