Chelsea striker Fernando Torres, who scored his first goal in a Blues shirt in the 3-0 win over West Ham last weekend, is to be allowed to stage a re-enactment of the goal at the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton on Friday.
Torres went 903 minutes without finding the net until he made his appearance as a substitute against the Hammers, and wasted no time in slotting home a sweet left foot shot that sent fans - the Prince amongst them - delirious.
Now, Palace officials have announced, the Spaniard will be given the opportunity to wow guests at Westminster Abbey with the aid of a specially-erected stage containing a goalmouth with goal and nets for the centre-forward to shoot into.
The scheme is the idea of the Prince who, himself, regularly attends Stamford Bridge.
A Palace spokesman said:
"Yes, we're going to have a CrimeWatch-style re-enactment of the goal. I don't know which the Prince is more excited about - the goal or the wedding!"
