FIFA$ $tar Trek HQ, Qatar: When ruling footballing body FIFA, gave the tournament to the Arab state Qatar, despite its lack of stadia, infrastructure and footballing pedigree, $tar Trek Blatter was taking football it to new frontiers!
During the bid, Qatar claimed that they had got enough money to build enclosed stadiums and run air conditioning during the Summer, as Qatar wanted the tournament. The air conditioning would be necessary, to ensure that the world's best footballers did not have to slug it out in temperatures approaching 45C (113F) in a country half the size of Wales.
Now FIFA$ Pre$ident, $tar Trek Blatter, calmly expects the footballing world to change drastically their normal footballing activities, to hold the tournament at Christmas and the winter. All becau$e of FIFA$ inexplicable deci$ion to give the World Cup to a non footballing nation, Qatar. In keeping with $tar Trek Blatter'$ de$ired objective of taking football to new frontier$!
An earlier World Cup would mean less time for qualifiers and more disruption to the domestic leagues around the world.
With Euro 2020 due to take place, 2020/1 is unlikely to start earlier than August and with more qualifiers in that season it is likely to be extended way beyond May 2021. As as result the 2021/2 will not be able to start significantly earlier enough (to accommodate the winter World Cup) to prevent that season running into 2022/3?
With this move to host the World Cup tournament in Winter, it is likely to bring accusations that FIFA are bending the rules to suit itself. During the bidding for the World Cup, USA's FIFA member Chuck Blazer said the summer heat in Qatar would be too intense. He said: "You can air condition a stadium, but I don't see how you can air-condition an entire country."
FIFA$ Pre$ident Star Trek Blatter having given his backing to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar being switched to Winter because of the country's intensely hot summers, that can reach 40C and 50C.
Ian Holloway, the Blackpool Manager, is very critical of, FIFA$ Pre$ident Star Trek Blatter, plan to take football to new frontier$;
- "I think the world has gone completely on its head," said Holloway. It's crazy,"
"We'll just change everything because their weather is really hot."
"What happens to our football and everybody else's that would be playing through it? Do we just stop for a while? Genius, absolutely magnificent."
"I'm going to go home and tell my turkeys, 'It's not Christmas, we're moving it - it's all right, you've got some respite! I've had a word with Fifa and we're going to move Christmas, it's no problem'."
Mick McCarthy, the Manager at Wolves, was also critical of FIFA$ Pre$ident Star Trek Blatter plan to take football to new frontier$!
- "I think it's stupid and I think the more airtime he [Blatter] gets, he makes it worse for himself," said McCarthy.
"Taking the World Cup around the globe is one thing, but taking it to a place that's 50 degrees in the summer, or whatever it is, is nonsense.
"Then saying 'we'll all shut our leagues and play in the winter' is even more nonsense.
"I await the next instalment next week and I can boot that into touch as well."
