Mr Ed finished second at Newbury yesterday in the 4.40 a three mile steeplechase and almost collapsed with exhaustion. The race had three runners but the outsider fell leaving Mr Ed racing against the 4-9 favourite Joaaci who ended up winning easily by fourteen lengths.
Three hours later when Mr Ed got his breath back he said "I am knackered as I am getting on a bit now I am twelve years old which is old for a horse". Mr Ed stopped for breath and then continued "In human terms some say one horse year equals seven human years so just think about that could you finish second in a race if you were running when you were 84 years of age,I feckin doubt it even if there were no other finishers in the race".
Poor Mr Ed is now in the twilight of his career, which is a dangerous time for racehorses you either end up in a race for slow horses called a selling plate,or more tragically on a plate for some French Bastards dinner, because these French eat horses don't they.
