There were fantastic scenes at the KC Stadium in Hull this evening when, after surviving the ordeals of his first season in the Premier League, Hull City manager Phil Brown said thank you to the Tigers' fans by giving an impromptu singing performance on the pitch.
Brown, a picture of suave sophistication, took to the field with a microphone at the final whistle, and belted out his version of the Beach Boys 'Sloop John B', with its maritime theme, and ended by telling the adoring hordes:
"The single's out on Tuesday!"
Brown has cut a dash with his Madonna-style headset this season, and fancies himself as a performer. The KC crowd listened intently as he sang:
"This is the best trip I've ever been on!"
And then they begged him to stop, as the terrible ranting and warbling was relayed around the planet by broadcasters.
Brown said later:
"I've allus fancied meself as a bidova club singer - like a South Shields version of Tom Jones!"
