ELBOW, Ariz. -- Alone and downtrodden, former heavyweight great Mike Tyson is beginning to realize how stupid he was and, now broke, is opening up to how stupid he still is.
Tyson filed for bankruptcy last year, owing over $23 million to various people and companies. He had earned over $400 million as a controversial but bankable boxer, but stupidity brought him down, not a mighty fist.
"They's right about brains over braun," said Tyson as he sparred with his shadow in a makeshift ring in the basement of some farmer. "You can be rich and have a lot of money. And you can be poor with no money. Both ways can be bad, but if you can knock someone out with a big punch and get money, why drive a cab for a living?
"Had I had some brains, even a few, I would have money now and with it I coulda bought food. But being stupid was the knockout punch and it is too late for me to go getting smart. I have to keep fighting."
Tyson will be a stupid 38-years-old soon and is having trouble finding other boxers to fight. And, his price for a fight has gone down from $20 million to $135.60.
"I'm not sorry for anything I have done," Tyson said, "but I regret it all."
