Following his controversial sending off in the Manchester derby, Ronaldo spoke out for the first time today, 'I thought I heard my mum shout for me to come in for my tea, and as it was my ball, I was taking it home'.
Ferguson defended his player, saying 'He was only trying to protect his face, when you play with a proper football it can really sting when it hits you.'
Ronaldo's mum stated,'It was cold and dark and I was worried about him playing out with the big boys, even though they didn't play the high tempo, pressing game I'd expected. It was well past little Chrissie's bedtime, so I called him in before he got hurt.'
The referee defended his action, 'Rooney's dad had told me to play on until his lad scored and anyway we had a spare ball when Ronaldo took his home so we didn't care.'
Support for Ronaldo came from an unlikely source when movie star and former hard man Vinnie Jones said, 'I don't blame the kid, you need to look after your face if you're planning a future in Hollywood, it's just a pity he looked such a nancy catching the ball, but I'm sure fellow players and fans will be very supportive'.
