Liverpool have finally come to terms with the fact that they will not be signing Gareth Barry from Aston Villa, and have, instead, signed Gary Barlow from Take That.
Villa wanted more than £18million for Barry, and whilst Liverpool were not prepared to meet that price, boss Rafa Benitez acknowledged that his team needed a left-sided midfield player. Barlow fits the bill, being something of a Left-winger.
The secret son of Coronation Street stars, Ken and Deidre, the singer can play up front or on the left side, as he did at Runcorn under 11s, his first club. Always a Liverpool fan, Barlow adopted the name Kurtis Rush as a tribute to his hero, Ian.
Liverpool captain Steve Gerrard said:
"Wiv 'ad a biddova lacklustre staht to the season. We didn't get Gareth Barry so the manager's brought in Gary Barlow. 'Opefully, 'e can Relight Our Fire."
