HOLLYWOOD - The true life story of retired Ukrainian pole vaulter, Sergei Bubka, will be featured in a new film by Lionsgate.
Studio executives confirm that Mr. Bubka, the current indoor and outdoor world record holder, was consulted during filming for his character - portrayed deftly by Method actor Edward Norton.
Norton remarked, "Pole vaulting is all rooted in Stanislavski... the same as what I had studied." (Note: Stanislavski invented the basis of Method acting known as 'The System' that was later adapted by Lee Strasberg in the U.S.)
"I applied my Method training to the Petrov/Bubka technical model and was able to clear 6 meters," continued Norton. "When I immerse myself in a character I can pull off just about anything -- with the exception of a believable British accent in The Painted Veil. Regardless, nobody has explored the Pole Vault Genre like we have with this movie."
Unfortunately for Mr. Bubka, he will not receive a single red cent due to the fact that he currently appears on the U.S. 'No Fly List'. In fact his assets have been frozen.
