He may have been kicked out of baseball for a year but New York Yankees Alex Rodriguez has gone back to writing poetry.
What kind of poetry?
"Somewhere between Bob Dylan and Mohammed Ali he laughed."
A-Rod then told some reporters that he had planned to publish the book after he quit baseball.
"But I have a few years left. It's a year before I get to play again and I thought that now was the time to write."
A-Rod stated that he "loved the "Beat Poets" like Ginsberg, William Carlos Williams and Whitman. Also, William Burroughs,Jr. I know that some of those were not "Beat Poets" but they inspired the beat poets."
Could we see a sample?
"Yes but you can't print it or quote it until the publisher gives permission."
Most of us were genuinely impressed.
"I guess what got me writing the poetry was the book of poems by Jim Morrison. He never had a good singing voice. Had some hits that were good but I wish he had written more poetry."
"At least they can't accuse me of using steroids to write poetry", he smiled. But it was just with the mouth, not the sadness in the eyes.
