SOCHI, Russia - NBC sportscaster Bob Costas has apologized to the people of Russia for his insensitive remark regarding vodka during a report on The Sochi Winter Olympics.
Costas was talking about the different flags of the various countries represented in the XXII Winter Olympics when he just blurted out that he does not like vodka, which is the national drink of Russia.
Bob caught himself and decided to apologize but he had run out of time in that segment of the Olympics program.
He later appeared on Russian television and with the help of an interpreter said that he was sorry about the remark and that he was not thinking clearly since he was so concerned about his pink eye ailment which he said has affected his sense of reasoning.
Russia's national news agency, Vodkavich, remarked that Costas had better think before he engages his mouth and that foreign sportscasters in years past have been asked to leave the country for making anti-Russian statements that were a lot less insulting than his vodka remark.
SIDENOTE: NBC has said that to prevent Mr. Costas from sticking his foot in his mouth again, they will be setting his reports up on a 13-second delay.
