DENVER - Word from the world of sports is that there is a movement in Colorado to change the name of the National Hockey League Colorado Avalanche to the Colorado Pot Pucks.
According to Zorro La Bamba with The Sports Bet Gazette, the movement was started by a hockey group calling itself Fans of the Puck (FOP).
Grover Dizzdickens, 29, the spokesman for the group stated that they have never really liked the name Avalanche since after all it is a natural occurring disaster.
Grover compared it to people in Southern California naming a team the California Mudslides, or a Washington state team being named the Northwest Tsunami's.
Dizzdickens pointed out that so far his petition has a total of 73 names. He commented that once he gets 400 names he will present it to the Colorado Avalanche organization and hope that they agree to change the name from Avalanche to the more appropriate Pot Pucks.
