The science world is reeling from the shock announcement that Pupfish, are evolving into Pupfish!
"Most of the species look the same and they act the same, eating detritus and algae off rocks," UC Davis researcher Chip Martin said.
However, Martin found one of the three pupfish species in shallow, salty lakes on San Salvador island in the Bahamas lives by biting the scales off other fish, while another eats small snails and clam shrimp.
No other pupfish is known to eat scales, Martin said:
"So there it is. Of the 50 species of pupfish, two have tried different food sources."
A real scientist said "It really is pathetic. How does a pupfish eating scales indicate evolution? Are vegetarian humans a different species after giving up meat? Pupfish can eat algae, plankton and other fish! Another case of wishful thinking. I'm afraid if it looks like a pupfish, behaves like a pupfish, and has the dna of a pupfish, chances are, it's a pupfish."
