Is there anybody there?

Alien technology experts fear reprisals against Earth from a newly-discovered "Super-Earth."

The plant, GJ 1214b, is about three times larger than our planet but is the first such extra-solar body scientists have found with an atmosphere.

Astronomers say it appears to have either a dense atmosphere of water steam, or is wrapped in thick clouds like Venus.

"'Super-Earths' are really interesting, they're at the forefront of what's going on in exoplanet research," said Jacob Bean, the Harvard-Smithsonian University Center for Astrophysics scientist who led the research.

But there is also a warning from other experts, who fear that the planet could be harbouring bad news for Earth.

Said Norbert Poobrains, of the National Space Aliens Technology Experts Society: "This is a very dangerous development.

"I would expect the inhabitants of this planet to be very pissed off at Earth boffins for calling their home world something as mundane as GJ 1214b.

"They are probably, even now, slowly, but surely drawing their plans against us."

Prominent astronomer, GQP Ogilvie, however, assures us: "The chances of anything coming from GJ 1214b are a million to one."

"But still they-ey come," added Mr Poobrains.

The funny story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
