(RUTGERS) - You might call her Princess. She might even respond to "baby". But a new study by animal researchers here has found that the vast majority of American dogs will come when called 'Blackie'.
"We've stumbled upon what appears to be a universal name in the language of dogs," says Dr. David Freers, who conducted the study of over 3,500 pooches from 46 states. "The 'Blackie' phenomenon as we are calling it, was observed in 98% of all dogs, regardless of size or color."
Adding weight to the study's findings: the small number of dogs that failed to respond to 'Blackie', were all born in non-English speaking countries.
