Molena, Georgia (IPP) - Military personnel manning the NORAD missile defense system have announced that the comet discovered by astronomer David Blackshear was actually the first man made comet in history.
At first scientists believed the story that David Blackshear had discovered the comet using his naked eye while attending a brightly lit country music concert.
Technicians at NORAD soon discovered that David had actually created the comet himself. David had aquired a government surplus X-15 and had sucessfully attached thrust augmentation devices onto the 1960's vintage space plane.
He aimed the X-15 straight up and used a timer device to achieve iginition of the space plane during a period of time that he knew that he would be away at the concert.
The nose of the X-15 was fitted with a device that would inject a cloud of ice and dry ice vapor into space at a time of night when it would be dark on the ground but still sun lit at the 114 mile altitude where the rocket plane expelled its gas cloud. The solar wind then caught ahold of the gas and created a cometary tail that was visible for 24 hours by observers on the ground.
