Oh, those heady days of innocence as we partied in the streets with the clocks ticking down to doomsday at the end of 1999.
All the computers in the world malfunctioned as simpleton computer programmers had represented four-digit years with only the final two digits — making the year 2000 indistinguishable from 1900. Power stations failed, leading to blackouts; communications, transport and navigation systems failed and horrendous crashes ensued; aeroplanes fell from the sky and nuclear missiles rained down upon us.
But we didn't care, it was New year's Eve, why let such catastrophic events spoil a good party?
Except, it didn't happen.
That was close.
Point of fact, it wasn't the end of the millennium, that was 31st December 2000. Just thought I'd let you know that. After all is 99p a pound? Nope, point smugly made.
