Simply put this is a dog-eat-dog, survival-of-the-fittest, every-man-for-himself, free-for-all feeding frenzy. So it's no wonder it always takes root in so-called democratic societies where freedom and democracy is more of a Wild West type mob rule. And it's so popular because people are full of the worst things to be brought out of them. Proponents claim that such unbridled commercial competition is good - until they lose their shirt in the stock market.
