Not many people would consider Saudi Arabia as a potential holiday destination. However, travellers who ignore it could be missing out on a surprising country which on the surface appears to offer little, but actually delivers.
One of the main cities is Mecca, which is a historically important Islamic city. Indeed, it has become something of a mecca for Muslim pilgrims.
There are other cities too, none of which are known for their nightlife despite the country having a reputation as a good place to get stoned. In most cities a curfew operates, and women are not allowed outside at all without a male relative and covering themselves completely. Don't let that dampen your spirits though, because there are plenty of fun tea shops to visit. Some of these close as late as 8pm.
But it's not all sand, surf, and sex. Quite literally, it is just sand. 250,000 square miles of empty desert just waits for you to explore it. Can you resist that temptation?
