Long running sitcom "My Family" has been dropped by the BBC after 11 years.
Commissioning editor Brian Grenville-Davis broke the news to the world media yesterday :
"Its with great regret that , on behalf of the BBC, I have to announce that the popular comedy 'My Family' is not to be given another series.
Although the the viewing figures have been holding steady at 4.6 million, the Corporation felt that, if it is to face the many challenges ahead, it was time to ditch wishy, washy, unchallenging Middle Englander comedies.
'My Family' is definitely one of them, so it was the first to go.
The days of putting on safe shows like this is long gone.
If we are to grow and prosper as an organisation, we at the BBC must create a product that addresses issues more cutting edge than kids spending too long watching TV, mothers whose flans don't always turn out right or fathers who trip over the sofa when they've had one drink too many.
We are now commissioning a new breed of comedies that will tackle such thorny issues as students not attending all their tutorials, parents who argue over whose turn it is to pay the council tax and even the previously taboo subject of adolescents wearing lip studs.
No stone will be left unturned".
