After his surprise winning of the Nobel Peace Prize last week, Barack Obama next surprised the music world today when his band The Four Obamas shot straight to number one on both sides of the Atlantic with 'The Sound of My Silence'. And here are the song's lyrics:
'Hello Israel, my old friend
I've come to sell you arms again
While Palestinian children are sleeping
To them the IDF now creeping
Bush's orders and Cheney's too are in my brain
And stay the same
With the sound of my silence
In airstrike dreams they cried alone
Hospitals and streets all blown
'Neath the halo of street lamps
I turned blind eyes to the DP camps
When my eyes were burnt by the flash of cluster bombs
On children's homes
Never touched the sound of my silence
And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand dying, maybe more
People neither eating nor drinking
Their sewers now all stinking
I've been making speeches that ears no longer hear
When I'm near
Won't disturb the sound of my silence
'Fools', said I, 'You do not know
Silence like a typhoid grows
Hear my words 'I've sold out
For oil and cash no doubt''
But my words, insincere lies that they are
Won't go far
Nor make up for my shameful silence
And my people bowed and prayed
To the lie of peace they'd faked
Saddam, Saudis and Israel
US armed them one and all
And the signs said, The words of the prophets are now gone
From the Pentagon
All you can hear, is my silence'
(words by Barack Hussein Obama, music by the sound of the pain of the thousands of victims of Israeli war crimes in the West Bank, silence by every spineless US President since 1948)
