Female politicians should try other forms of transport

Why is bicycle-riding limited to male politicians in Britain? Why don't female politicians arrive at work using something less conventional than the bus, a taxi or the train?

Politicians like David Cameron and Boris Johnson are famous for their bikes (even if they are followed by a massive entourage of cars and everyone accepts that the bike is just used for photo opportunities). While it is true that Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Hazel Blears has a motorcycle because she likes to feel a roaring engine between her legs, there are many more women in politics who could follow her lead.

As public servants, they owe it to the voters.

Attorney General Vera Baird QC could ride with her lookalike Hazel Blears, both in full leathers.

Home Secretary Jacqui Smith could do a 200 mile bike ride to work every morning, arriving in a hot and sweaty state wearing a t-shirt that shows the voters her manifesto.

Imagine Parliamentary Under Secretary of State Meg Hillier arriving in a big wet slide.

Not only would this save on carbon emissions but it would also put a big wet smile on the faces of most male voters. And surely that's what politics is all about.

The story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
