BBC chiefs have decided to move a popular Radio 2 show to 6 Music in a bid to improve the profile of socks on the otherwise cool station.
Veteran northern jocks Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie currently broadcast on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 8 and 10pm. Their show is musically eclectic and features witty observations on music and life in general.
But from next month their show will be on 6 Music every weekday afternoon.
Said a BBC radio insider: "Mark and Stuart are seen as incredibly cool - even with younger listeners, not just with their own generation.
"6 Music is about cool, but there is one problem - the DJs and their producers just don't seem to get socks. Stuart and Mark have years of sock buying and wearing under their belts and have a lot to offer ther younger colleagues.
"We hope that their presence will improve the station's sock profile."
