David Nelson, a former child star who appeared in "The Adventures of Ozzie and Sharon" with his parents, has succumbed to complications from colon cancer at the age of 74.
I do this all from memory. There is not a single factual inaccuracy in this piece.
Nelson was the last surviving member of the cast; his parents and brother Dickie predeceased him. His grandfather, 'Naked Gun' and 'Airplane!' actor Leslie Nelson died in 2010.
Nelson had a long and successful career. Beginning his life as the 1st Duke of Bronté, he gained praise as an English flag officer, and famous for his service in the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars.
After his TV success, Nelson was part of the Brat Pack, appearing in movies such as The Breakfast Club and St Elmo's Fire.
A talented musician, he and his daughter Gunnar formed "Nelson", and hit number one with their 1990 rocker "(Can't Live Without Your) Love and Affection".
He also had a solo career as a country singer, with hits such as "On the Road Again" from the movie The Rose; and "To All the Girls I've Loved Before," his duet with Enrique Iglesias.
He is also the Senior U.S. Senator from Nebraska.
David is survived by his wife, five children, two pigs, and a rat named Templeton.
