Sweeping the fashion industry by storm and featured in three of the last five winter fashion shows, clear Cellophane is making a huge splash with designers as they rush to capitalize on the hype surrounding the design trend.

Featuring most of their winter collection in Cellophane, Hugo Voss' French designer Vie Pea-Elles says, "It is an interesting material to work with and of course very sexy." Critics had commented that the material isn't a material at all, in fact uses no stitching of any kind. Pea-Elles replied, "We use model airplane glue to fasten the seams together and zip-lock vinyl closures instead of zippers. It works very well." Responding to comments about the function of the material in winter or in public during any season, Pea-Elles says, "It is a little see through, which is why we don't recommend underwear be worn at all, and it is a bit chilly to wear in the winter. That is why have created the black plastic-bag insulated jacket as an accessory."

The response in the press and fashion trade magazines was mixed, with arguments being made on the side of form over function. Vie Pea-Elles commented, "Fashion doesn't have to be functional at all, but I would argue that these dresses are. Being completely stain and odor proof, you could come home with protein, champagne and vomit residue on your dress and still rinse it off in the sink. No one will ever know."

The basic "Clear" cocktail dress retails for $3790.
