Viewers of BBC1's Comic Relief Does Fame Academy have been stunned by the high standard of performances given by some of the celebrity participants on the show, but the singing prowess of one of the contenders should come as no surprise to anyone.
For actor Shaun Williamson, real name Barry Evans, was known, in his last incarnation, as Limahl of the chart-topping Eighties band Kajagoogoo.
Evans first tasted the sweet smell of success back in 1983 with the no.1 hit 'Too Shite', but when the public tired of the Kajadoodoo dross soon after, the frontman decided a change of image would be his best option, and a trip to his plastic surgeon followed.
Out went the healthy physique, the boyish good looks and the much talked-about spikey hair, and, trying to achieve the 'Marlon Brando look', he was left as what can be seen today - a fat, balding Mr Blobby lookalike.
Resigned to becoming a 'bit part' actor, he begrudgingly accepted a kind offer to feature as boring Barry in miserable soap EastEnders, where he was bullied and murdered by feisty Janine Butcher, played by Bella Emberg.
He subsequently ended up, again, on the showbiz scrapheap, before another failed 80's pop star, Ricky Gervais, handed loathsome Barry a final chance in Extras, a show made to accommodate the talentless Barry.
Now though, with the public once again behind him, and his unquestionable singing pedigree, he is favourite to win FA on Friday.
