The corridors of TheSpoof.com are quiet these days, as many of its writers are in California, practicing to compete in a special DWTS just for spoof writers.
Many are doubtful that they can create good performances. Only time will tell.
TV personality and lifestyle expert Martha Stewart happened to be at the studio when the spoofers arrived for rehearsals on the first day. Seeing the weary travelers alight from a chartered bus, she reportedly remarked, "They're a motley-looking crew. Kind of scruffy. To be honest, they all look like they could use a good scrub."
The reactions of the dance judges, who observed the first rehearsals, were universally negative. Carrie Ann Inaba got very pale and was able to utter only one word, "Oy." Len Goodman said, "Good grief. I hope their writing is better than their dancing." Bruno Tonioli commented, "They may have a way with words, but the poor things all seem to have two left feet."
One spoof writer, who shall remain nameless, is not interested in taking part in the dancing competition. She waved good-bye to her colleagues and urged them to "break a leg." Then she rushed back to her computer to continue pounding out spoofs. Focusing on a competition of a different kind, she's told friends, "Let them jump, bump, and grind to their heart's content. By the time they come home, I'll have jumped right over them to get to the top of the Writers Chart. Yippee!"
