Britain's largest supermarket chain, Tesdabury's continued its rapid expansion by opening, this week, its newest location in the toilets of an existing Tesdabury's Express in Newland Avenue, Hull.
"Tesdabury's customers just can't stand being far from their favourite Tesdabury's products," said Bob Mullit, Tesdabury's's Head of Stores. "Now, people can pick and choose just about any time they please, even while going to the toilet."
The new Tesdabury's mini-outlet, based in the toilets, is Tesdabury's's 2,895th location in Hull, and will be open to men and women since the WCs are unisex. In addition to offering super-value toilet rolls, it will serve fresh bread and a range of cheap beers and wines, as well as a good selection of toiletries.
"What a relief," said Joan Barton, who tried out the new Tesdabury's mini-outlet yesterday. "I was doing my usual weekly shop in Tesdabury's Express, and I needed to go to the toilet, where three people were queuing to use the WCs. The wait might have been a problem, but, to my great pleasure, there was another Tesdabury's right there, ready to serve me with more stuff. And the staff and check-out girls were helpful and courteous."
The new mini-outlet is especially popular with older customers who have been desperate for this additional facility and find it very convenient.
According to Tesdabury's's Senior Development Officer, Marvin Moore, the new location represents the beginning of a long-term expansion plan.
"Eventually, Tesdabury's's toilets everywhere will sell stuff," Moore said. "But that ambitious scheme is at least five months down the road. In the meantime, here at Newland Avenue, we plan to open an additional mini-outlet in the loft of the ladies' room within weeks, and are already drafting plans for a mini-market stall along the corridor leading from the main freezer section to the toilets. At some point a Tesdabury's Express window will eventually open in the partition wall between the two WCs in the Tesdabury's Express toilets."
