Australia's foreign minister Bob Carr used a visit to London this week to urge me to give British citizens Down Under index-linked pensions.

I told him that, Under current rules, the state pension is increased in line with inflation only in certain countries, including throughout the European Economic Area, the US and Israel.

I offered to meet with him at the Hotel Excelsior bedroom 204, to hold talks on the matter.

My personal assistant assistants Lucien and Jeremy thought this was a bad idea!
