Even Labour's narrow defeat in the London mayoralty is a blessing for Mr Miliband, as it means he will not have to deal with a cranky Ken Livingstone in the run up to the next general election.

Which will make things difficult for my party - hard to believe we have only 431 councillors in the whole country.

Still I'll make do with being deputy Prime Minister for a while longer.
