I was taking part in a question and answer session at the party's Youth Conference on Jobs at Warwick University when I made a faux pas!

I wanted some female involvement in the debate, but struggled to find women who wished to ask me anything.

So I pointed towards the audience and said: 'Is that a lady at the back?

'It is a man? Oh right. Well, since I've seen you anyway, why don't you ask the question?'

He had a beard as well!

Still, it got noticed for once!
