When I said Britain is ready for the "greatest show on Earth" as the final countdown to the start of the 2012 Olympics began, adding that the country must show the world "the best of Britain" over the next two weeks, I should have known the pessimists would respond!

Spoof columnists Bartholomew Utterswaithe offered to give visitors a tour of the Nottingham Big Issue sellers pitches - Bidney Sollocks, offered them a tour of the fire-bombed police stations - Lin Ton, offered to run a free 'Spot the Employed Person' competition - and Dr Juan, offered a free tour for visitors of MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) infected NHS wards - and S Koob offered them photo's of his holiday in Spain!
