Coleman and Franken Kickoff Re-election Campaigns

The two mainstream candidates for U.S. Senator from Minnesota started their re-election campaigns today. Norm Coleman, who was senator until January 3, and Al Franken are in a court battle royale to determine who will represent Minnesota in the Senate.

Norm Coleman spoke in front of a crowd in Bloomington announcing his decision to run for re-election. He claimed that his opponent has done nothing since the Senate opened for session. Al Franken, on the other hand, said that Minnesota's voting record has improved in spite of that he hasn't gotten to vote on legislation.

Debates will be on the first Tuesday of every month between now and the 2014 election, when the seat is up for election. Critics argue that 69 debates are far too many, but both candidates said that that many debates are needed to show the differences between the two candidates.
