Dozens of 'goldfish lovers' picketed outside a new downtown Toronto Sushi Restaurant today carrying placards and yelling,
"We want goldfish",
"When do we want them?"
"NOW!"
Apparently the owner of the new Sushi Restaurant is sticking by his decision NOT to add goldfish to his menu. Although he stands to lose a lot of custom by NOT putting goldfish on his menu, he told our reporter that if he DID his adult children have told him that they will disown him.
His son and daughter co-own a large Pet Store in the Eaton Shopping Centre and sell a large variety of pets including tropical fish AND goldfish.
It is Japanese custom for children to look after elderly relatives and the Restaurant owner said he is not prepared to commit Hari Kari by giving in to picketers and later in life ending up in an old folks home, or worse.
