Residents living near Istanbul airport were amazed this morning when a plane flew overhead bearing the British Airways livery. As it looked as though it might be landing, crowds flocked to the airport to see this rare phenomenon.
Disembarking passengers were greeted by people offering them glasses of champagne and traditional Turkish hospitality. Expecting typical British sang froid and insouciance they were disappointed to hear only whinging about the airline, the airport and the government's failure to 'do anything' In the end they drank the champagne themselves and went home.
"I know," said Mustafa holding an empty bottle, "that half the world was once ruled form London. But to expect the government to change the weather is pushing things a bit too far."
