The French public have been taken by surprise following the announcement that Carla Bruni has been commissioned to write a new national anthem.
A recent poll revealed that most French were quite happy with The Marseillaise (The jolly one that goes da-dee da-da, da- da, dah, dee-da) and felt that there had been no need to change it.
There has been much speculation in the French press that the new anthem was forced on the government only because The President lost the old one to the Belgian Foreign Minister during a game of poker at the recent G20 summit.
There has also been anger that the French first lady has been asked to write the new anthem rather than popular French rap artist Fatal Bazooka who is known as Fat Baz to his friends, Which has provoked a strike by French songwriters.
"C'est absurd" said Baz. "I could of wrote a brilliant song about shagging the neighbour's wife, but we will be getting something about cheese and power stations instead"
