Berlin, Germany. Theories are rapidly developing after the death of FIFA World Cup hero, Paul the Octopus. Many people are detecting strange goings on, both before and after his demise.
A German journalist has suggested that Paul was taken down by an international cabal of intelligence organisations including MI6, CIA and still operative elements of the Stasi, the former East German secret police. The journalist believed that Paul was looked on by these bodies as an insidious threat to European unity. He added that the aquarium was closed for longer than usual about the time of Paul's death to enable agents to access his tank.
Another theory suggests that the octopus was targeted by zealous neo Nazi groups who objected to a tiny mollusc having so much power. "There is only one Fuhrer!!" said a Nazi devotee when approached for comment.
Some experts believe that ultimately Paul was poisoned by some Aquarium staff who secretly fed him food containing excessive amounts of fat such as McDonalds burgers, KFC nuggets and even Chinese take away.
