Christian's and bandwagon riders have expressed their distress and disbelief after The Vatican revealed that The Pope had indeed signed a sponsorship deal with NIKE.
Rumours have circulated for weeks now that a deal was to be struck after His Holiness was spotted with, "Tick Logo" trainers beneath his robes, during a Mass.
A spokesman from the Vatican released the following statement: "We feel that in the 21st century, it is about time that Religion reached out to the masses. Everybody has NIKE trainers and knows the brand... even little third-world kids without shoes know of NIKE. This decision will rejoin religion with the world."
The statement continued: "There is no reason for the masses to be outraged by this decision. Nothing will change- except the NIKE logo appearing on The Pope's garments and Vatican Bibles."
This reporter can reveal exclusively that His Holiness will participate in a television campaign with Roger Federer and will mention the slightly revised slogan, "Just Do It: Pray."
