As the authorities in north-eastern Pakistan tried valiantly to reach flooded villages today, news of the very first victim outside the beleaguered country - more than 2000 miles away in Thailand.
Moys Kenwood, a 'teacher' living in Bangkok told how he became a 'victim' of a torrential rainstorm - obviously an offshoot of the Pakistani monsoon - when he returned from work in Bangkok on Monday. He told us:
"I set out for work on Monday morning, and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. Therefore, I left my umbrella at home. Imagine my surprise, then, when, at 3.30pm, I came out of school to find a veritable deluge falling out of the heavens!"
He went on:
"It was ridiculous, really. I was absolutely soaked through to the skin. I looked like a drowned rat. My bag was drenched inside, and even my underpants were dripping wet. And to think it could all have been avoided had I taken my brolly with me that morning!"
He added:
"I might not be a fatality, but you should have seen the state of my shoes. And I think I have a cold coming on, now. That's all I need!"
