The long awaited Polish attempt to launch a man to the moon ended in a horrible crash in a Russian forest today killing over hundred passengers including Polish president Lech Kachynski.
The space launch was plagued with criticism from the start. Few thought that a regularly scheduled pressurized passenger aircraft was up to the task and that flight attendant's skirts would not stay down in weightlessness but the flight took off on schedule notwithstanding at the insistence of the Polish president.
The fatal flight was the first of many direct flights from Warsaw to the moon planned by president Kachynski who was a strong supporter of the Polish space program and had declared, "I am going to be the first Polish man to look at the earth from my shoes."
