Did he cut his ear off or didn't he? Did Gauguin do it? Where is it now? These are just some of the questions being bandied about in the art world this week, as yet another theory is advanced as to what really led Vincent Van Gogh to lose an ear.
The latest theory suggests that Gauguin cut the ear off in a drunken brawl, but that Van Gogh took the blame so that the pair could avoid arrest and carry on with their binge drinking session.
So we here at thespoof.com decided to conduct our own investigation and bring you the whole truth. And guess what?
We have actually found Van Gogh's missing ear!
Our research led us to Australia where performance artist Stelios Arcadiou revealed that he has had Van Gogh's lost lug hole transplanted onto his arm. He told us:
"It's not much cop really. I can't actually hear anything through it, and it looks a bit weird growing out of my arm like that. But on the plus side, I can see what I'm doing when I have at it with a cotton bud to clear out the excess earwax."
More as we get it.
