Gordon Brown last night caused a diplomatic furore and risked the future of the "special relationship" with USA when he had "one or two wee drams too much" at an official dinner with Barak Obama and started on him.
The President had been warned previously about the Prime Minister's liking for a fine Scotch Whisky, but nothing prepared him for the viciousness of Brown's attack.
Brown started with a slurring, incomprehensible ramble that involved a lot of finger-pointing and then sitting next to the President and molesting him, telling him what a good friend he was, how he had always loved Barak etc etc. With the President's security men, fingers nervously twitching on triggers, moving in to separate the two men, Brown suddenly became violent and thrashed out at Obama.
They were pulled apart just as Brown vommited copiously onto the white House carpet and started sobbing.
The British party will be flying home in disgrace later.
