Manila Philippines- An honest cabbie earned praise Sunday for returning a bag filled with 1.5 million pesos in cash to a masked man who left the money inside his taxicab earlier this week.
Brandino Baruda, a driver for VA (Value-Added) taxi, returned a bag containing P1,500, 000 and a toy pellet gun to Bogart Dimahuli in radio station dzWW.
"I did not bother to find out how much was in the bag. The thought of keeping the money did not cross my mind," Baruda, a father of six, said when asked if he was tempted to keep the money and the toy gun.
"My youngest son wanted a toy gun, but being poor, I didn't have the money. I thought about how to return the money. I never thought of keeping it because it is not mine." he said
Baruda said the masked man hailed his cab at Pasig City and asked to be brought to Cavite. Another passenger noticed the bag of money and the toy gun on the floor of the cab and pointed it out to him.
For his part, Dimahuli, the mysterious masked man who have been looking where he left the money gave Baruda the toy gun as a reward for his honesty. "My friends have been hounding me over this. They though I hid the money. Thanks to Mr. Baruda, my life was spared. So I want to give him the toy gun as a token for his honesty, it costs $3.50 in Baclaran" he said.
