VANCOUVER, CANADA: With the prospect of 20 million dollars dangling before his eyes, you would think Mats Sundin would bite - and bite hard. But for some reason, the procrastinating, dithering Swede has driven Vancouver Canucks GM Mike Gillis stir-crazy. Will he or won't he sign? What's he waiting for?
TheSpoof.com writer shea lo has just learned from an anonymous Swedish source that the ex-Leafs captain is planning to hang up his hockey skates for skates of a different kind - the ice-dancing type. Sundin hopes to compete for Sweden in the 2010 Winter Olympics to be held in Whistler, Vancouver. Together with his current girl-friend Sundin will be entered in the pairs ice-dance event.
"We hope to bring the gold medal to Sweden", said the aging hockey player.
In preparation for his participation in the Svenska Masterskapen Konstakning (Swedish Figure Champioships), where he and his partner hope to win the top prize, Sundin is honing his dancing skills. He has signed a deal with "Dancing with the Stars", partnering former Olympics champion Katerina de Witt. Sporting blond, flowing hair extensions, Sundin was hounded by the sniping, overweight, out-of-shape Vancouver media as he warmed up on the ice for his routine.
"I'm okay with the loops but my Salchows and Axels need a lot of work", said Sundin, as he picked himself up off the ice.
